How many times has this happened to you? You set a goal, you make a plan to reach that goal, you take action, and then… nothing.
I grew up in a family that attempted for over 10 years to succeed in a well known MLM. When I was 18 I joined that same business. I was exposed to some of the best personal development resources available. Time after time I set goals that were never achieved and the lifestyle I wanted elluded me.
I had the commitment, I had the dream, and I did the work.
I now know that the lifestyle I had wanted was always within my grasp. I am living that life today. I simply hadn’t learned how to realize my goals at that time.
So when what you are doing to live your dreams and achieve your goals isn’t working, what do you do?
You start by taking a good hard look at you and your approach to overcoming obstacles that keep you stuck. The most common obstacles to success are lack of clarity around what you are working to achieve, difficulty in completing the necessary action steps, lack of infomation concerning what to do and how to do it, not having a good support system to turn to, and limiting beliefs that keep you from being able to move forward.
1. Is the vision of what you want crystal clear?
Having a clear vision requires more than just a vague notion of what you are going for, or a few pictures on a bullitin bard. Break down every part of what you want your end result to be. A good approach here is to ask your self all the things you don’t want and then ask yourself all the things things you do want. You should be able to spend at least a half an hour clearly picturing exactly what your life will be like when you’ve achieved your results. When you can imagine every detail as being what you want it to be, that’s when you know you have a clear vision.
2. Do you like what you are doing?
The ends really do not justify the means. You are far more likely to take the necessary actions to achieve your goal if you enjoy those actions. If the process of achieving your goals isn’t just as exciting and enjoyable as having the goal itself then you need to rethink your plan of action. The more you enjoy what you are doing to achieve your goal the more likely you are to succeed.
3. Do you have all the information?
If you knew how to have the results you want to have, you would already have them. Start gathering new information and when you do so, apply that information to your own life. It doesn’t matter how much you know if it’s not helping you create your results. The power of knowledge is in it’s application. Learn, act, adjust, and repeat until you get where you want to go.
4. Do you have the support you need?
Help is always available to you somewhere. If you are not getting where you want to be with your current support system than add to it or look elsewhere. Find a coach, a mentor, or a consultent. Network with people who are where you want to be and learn from them.
5. What are your beliefs?
If you believe at your core that you are only capable of making minimum wage than nothing you do will result in you being a millionaire. Pay attention to your core beliefs surrounding what you want and the actions needed to get those results. Until you start to believe that you can have what you want you will continue to struggle. You and only you are responsible for creating and nurturing a belief system that will support you in creating the results you want.
